NETWORKING
Now you may know a thing or two about networking, but I hope to share a couple of things that may shead some light on the topic.
What is it?
Business networking is an activity by which groups of like-minded businesspeople recognize, create, or act upon business opportunities. The key to it is to meet centers of influence and create win-win relationships with them.
How do I do it?
Have you heard of the 90-10 rule? Talk 90% of the time about the people you want business from and 10% of the time about yourself. When you meet someone new ask them about their business. Think of ways that you can connect them to the people they'd like to meet. Make a point to refer them even if it doesn't seem like it will benefit you directly. That person will defiantly remember you and it goes a long way.
Why Should it?
When you network you start to make a name for yourself in your community or the places you market. Whether that is a good or a bad name is up to you but, the point is to have the name. Wouldn't your want everyone that could possibly need or use your services think about your name when it comes to your industry? That's why you should network.
How can I get business out of it?
As I've networked in my career I've learned about a formula that has changed my business completely. It is Visibility+Credibility=Profitability. The more visible you are in the lives of the people you meet the more credible you seem to them and the more credible the more profit able. They will look to you as the authority on the subject they'll look to you for. The biggest way to do this is to be active and involved as much as possible in the people that first give you business and in the people you want business from.

Key to a competitive edge
How to work a crowd
You can really take advantage of networking by spending a few minutes with each person in a room. Don't catch yourself spending any more than five minutes with these those people. Time is of the essence in the morning time you lose the less you'll have to meet the people that can do business with you. In a networking event there are not a lot of people that are looking to buy, make the best of it and be as helpful as possible. Whoever has the best relationship wins so, meet as many people as possible and of course find those that you can network with further.
How to get people interested in youAs soon as you were at a networking event the idea of networking is not to see how many business cards you can hand out yourself but the other way around. You want to be as helpful and supportive as possible. Smile and be genuinely interested in the other person. Follow 90/10 rule, talk 90% of the time about them and only 10% about yourself. This will open the door to the person being interested in asking you questions about your business.
How to be top dogWhen at a networking event there is normally a lot of people to speak to. There will be people you can do business with, people that you can refer with and there will be people that may not need or want your services at all. Make sure to ask them what they do, think of people you can introduce them to and definitely take the card even if you may not benefit from it directly. If you make a point to be helpful or hand out a referral to someone you just met it makes you look more credible more likable and more trustworthy. You can also introduce them to people in the room almost as if you are the host. This will make you look like you know everyone and you're the person to go to if they ever need anything. Utilize this whether you are in or outside of a networking event and you'll soon have the community calling your name.
